I work with high-performing young people who will make a difference in today’s world.
Carol enjoys being an “Encourager Extraordinaire” and working with clients to help them realize their dream of going to medical school or dental school or other health profession school. She provides guidance, support, and constructive feedback that is invaluable for clients as they get to know themselves better during their application process. One of Carol’s favorite sayings is, “The secret to getting into medical or dental or other school is to go be a fascinating person! And, the other half to that secret is: YOU ALREADY ARE! So, your job is to figure out exactly what makes you fascinating and how that would be good information to your future admissions committee!” Many of Carol’s clients are high-performing young people who are very clear on their future goal, they are just unsure of the next best steps to get there. Carol sees the best in her clients and then finds ways to give them this information so that they can grow and incorporate these strengths and talents into their application process. She focuses on client strengths and talents, as well as suggested areas of growth, and provides effective steps for excelling in the application process. She has coached hundreds of young people through the preparation and application process.
Carol has a varied and well-rounded background, starting with a liberal arts degree in Mathematics/Psychology from Sweet Briar College. She worked volunteering in a hospital setting during high school, and as a nurse’s aide in a small hospital on the night shift while in college. Prior to attending graduate school, Carol worked in bank management in information technology. She received her masters degree in Counseling from Wake Forest University, obtained her National Certified Counselor (NCC) credential, and worked for a number of years on a team as a clinical and family therapist in an inpatient psychiatric hospital. She has worked in a large public university career center for over 20 years, with her most recent time spent serving as advisor to hundreds of students going into a graduate health profession, such as medicine and dentistry.
